BLK supports BLM

Updated: Jul 24, 2020

Black lives matter. For some reason, this simple statement is freaking some people the f*ck out right now. It’s a simple concept - there has been a plague of bigotry spread across the Western world (and beyond) for centuries now, and it needs to stop. For some reason, there are people out there who believe that white lives matter more than black lives. All that the BLM movement wants is for society to stop discriminating against them, stop profiling them, stop killing them.

The current revolution started with the death of George Floyd, who died from asphyxiation after a police officer knelt on his neck for over 8 minutes. His death was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back, and now the world is somehow in turmoil because black people in the USA and across the globe are saying “Hey, can you please stop killing us?” and there are still people out there who are saying “sorry, no”?!

It seems ridiculous that people could hate each other based on the natural evolution of melanin in the skin. Literally, black people are darker because their ancestors lived closer to the equator and needed more protection from the UV rays, while white people lived in places with limited sun and therefore needed to absorb more UV rays in order to process vitamin D. That’s it. Enough with the xenophobia folks.

Hatred is born out of fear, and discrimination is a result of people fearing the unknown when they come across someone whose skin tone, orientation, even the way they groom themselves, is different from what they know. We live in a world with unlimited access to information thanks to the wonders of the internet. While it’s important to watch for biased angles and to be aware of the politics of your sources, there is literally no excuse for bigotry in today’s society. If you can read this blog article, you can educate yourself.

To show BLKGLOW’s support of the BLM movement, 10% of all sales of our asymmetrical zip front hoodie will be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Yep, that’s in addition to the 10% already going to the COVID-19 Response Fund. The world is hurting and we want to do our part to help it heal. So go get your shop on and do your part as well.
